Purpose of the Position

The Artisan Fitter is responsible for ensuring that all mechanical systems and equipment within the refinery are properly maintained and functioning efficiently. The role contributes directly to plant reliability, safety, and productivity by performing both planned and emergency maintenance.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to:

  • Executing planned maintenance tasks within specified timeframes
  • Attending to mechanical breakdowns promptly during shifts
  • Managing maintenance work orders and ensuring timely completion
  • Providing feedback to supervisors to improve plant performance
  • Completing SAP PM work orders accurately and on time
  • Participating in risk assessments and incident investigations
  • Reporting incidents to supervisors and through internal systems
  • Assisting in inspections and audits when required
  • Maintaining high housekeeping standards in the work environment
  • Supporting cost reduction initiatives by improving efficiency and reducing waste
  • Working rotational shifts when required to support refinery operations

These responsibilities ensure that the refinery operates safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime.


Minimum Requirements

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • N3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • Recognised Trade Test Certificate as a Fitter
  • Minimum of 2 years post-apprenticeship experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in a refinery or smelter environment

Advantageous Qualifications:

  • Additional trade qualification (e.g., Millwright)
  • Relevant tertiary qualification
